SUEDE STUDIO DESIGN CAREER

DESIGNER / SENIOR DESIGNER

ABOUT SUEDE STUDIO

Suede Studio is a full-service interior design firm specializing in high-end residential projects, with studios in Bozeman, Montana and Ketchum, Idaho. Led by Principal Jennifer Hoey, NCIDQ, our team has spent more than 20 years creating luxury, turnkey homes throughout the Mountain West—Idaho, Montana, Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado—and for clients across the country. Named a Mountain Living Top Designer every year since 2019, we deliver thoughtful, highly detailed interiors on budget and on schedule—and we believe the process of designing a home should be fun and exciting for everyone involved.

THE ROLE

We’re seeking Designers and Senior Designers to join our Bozeman studio. Working alongside the Principal, you’ll help drive the design and execution of projects end to end—developing concepts, producing drawings and specifications, coordinating vendors and subcontractors, and serving as a key point of contact for our Bozeman team. This is a hands-on role for someone equally comfortable at the drafting table and on the job site. We’re hiring at both the Designer and Senior Designer level, with title and compensation set to match your experience.

WHO YOU ARE

  • A self-starter who takes ownership, makes decisions, and keeps projects moving at pace.

  • Energized by people — you build trust quickly with clients, vendors, and your team.

  • Entrepreneurial and resourceful, with a bias for action and energy to spare.

WHY SUEDE STUDIO

  • High-end residential projects across the Mountain West, built on two decades of luxury work.

  • A close-knit, collaborative team that takes the work seriously and genuinely loves it.

  • Mentorship from an NCIDQ-certified Principal — and mountain-town living in Bozeman and Ketchum/Sun Valley.

  • A genuine commitment to work-life balance, designed to support a full life in the mountains.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Management & Supervision

  • Collaborate with the Principal on assigned projects and manage execution of project specifications with the company’s support staff and subcontractors, including the job-site labor workforce.

  • Interface with vendors and subcontractors to coordinate production and project schedules, and prepare Materials Selection and Room Finish Schedules as needed.

  • Serve as the key point of contact for all Bozeman employees.

Design & Drafting

  • Design, specify, draft, and integrate all elements of interior design and architecture—furniture plans; architectural details such as ceilings, walls, floors, window heights, columns, millwork, and built-ins; and kitchens, bathrooms, and other construction documents.

  • Draft custom furniture, furniture plans, construction drawings, and renderings as required, and obtain the necessary subcontractor quotes.

  • Specify fabrics, floor coverings, wall coverings, lighting, window treatments, furniture, and other items per project requirements, serving as project lead or collaborating with the Principal as appropriate.

  • Research and shop for project components, develop conceptual designs and mock-ups, and carry approved projects from concept through completion—working closely with the Principal and the team, with minimal supervision.

Project Management

  • Review project documentation to determine full scope of work, schedules, and requirements; confer with the Principal as needed; and maintain continual two-way communication with the team and clients, keeping all parties apprised of significant events.

  • Identify, document, and resolve problems in consultation with the Principal, following up and reporting status to the Principal and/or client as necessary.

  • Meet with clients, visit job sites, and travel as needed; and serve as liaison with vendors—gathering information and preparing detailed proposals (with the Purchasing Department) for client review and approval, including the spreadsheets needed to share selections.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field.

  • 2+ years of professional interior design experience, ideally in high-end residential projects.

  • Proficiency in industry design and drafting software such as SketchUp, AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, and the Adobe Creative Suite; experience with Studio Designer is a plus.

  • Strong working knowledge of construction documents, millwork, and custom furniture detailing.

  • Experience specifying fabrics, finishes, lighting, and window treatments.

  • Excellent communication and project-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

  • A collaborative, detail-oriented team player who works well directly with clients, vendors, and subcontractors.

  • Willingness to travel and visit job sites as needed.

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle for travel to site visits and installations; able to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.

LOCATION

This is a full-time position based in our Bozeman, Montana studio, though we’re also open to remote candidates located anywhere in the Mountain West—Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, or Colorado—with travel to job sites and to our Bozeman and Ketchum studios as needed. Candidates based outside the Mountain West are welcome to apply and should be open to relocating to the Bozeman area.

Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience.
